The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) is pleased to announce the launch of the 'Strengthening media capacities to combat climate misinformation and disinformation' project, which is funded by Global Initiative. This global initiative aims to empower journalists, boost public trust in climate reporting and lead a labour union-driven effort to counter climate misinformation and disinformation worldwide.
In the months leading up to the UN Climate Change Conference (Conference of the Parties) COP30 in Belém, a report by Climate Action Against Disinformation (CAAD) and the Observatory of Climate Integrity (OCI) revealed that false or misleading content about climate change had increased by 267% between July and September 2025, with around 14,000 examples found online.
In this context, the Declaration on Information Integrity on Climate Change, launched at COP30 by UNESCO, the Brazilian Government and the UN, represents an important step forward. It establishes shared international commitments to strengthen information integrity on climate change and promote accurate, evidence-based information on climate issues.
